MANN UP!
There is a very interesting phenomenon occurring in our world today. From birth to the late teens, a child’s overwhelming perceptions of authority figures is nearly 100% female, with an occasional male making a generally ineffectual appearance. In our hospitals, female nurses are responsible for almost every aspect of childcare. At home, mother is usually the dominant figure and 90% of the teachers in our primary schools (grade schools) are women!

When a child goes to the movies, grocery store, supermarkets, fast-food restaurants, fancy sit-down restaurants, vacation/holiday bible school, or Sunday school; who sells the tickets, takes the orders, collects the money, shows him where to sit, or tells him about God? (Except in many churches where a man preaches a congregation consisting of mostly women.) Who tells you what to wear, to clean up your room? In other words, who’s in charge? Is it a wonder that today’s young man is making every effort to demonstrate that he is a real man-like MOM!

As today’s man wears jewelry-bracelets, necklaces, and perhaps earrings, Keeps long hair and wears tight shirts opened to display “cleavage”; women on the other hand are wearing shorter haircuts, masculine pants and suits, and in some cases neck ties! This in an attempt to fill up the void left by the ‘men’ who refuse to be real men! It therefore clearly shows that men are slowly but surely loosing their position in society, as a result, larger numbers of people are facing “identity crises

As I now start this article ‘officially’ it would be best I make this statement to all men; Being male is by birth, being a man is a matter of choice! I would also like to mention that I appreciate and this article is unabashedly, uncompromisingly, and most certainly written to men; there are many articles written about us but precious few written to us. For the men with sons, you have heard him more than once say these, “I’m gonna be like you Dad. You know I’m gonna be like you.” Now if this doesn’t challenge you to be a better man I don’t know what will; it is more like, what would you like your son to turn out to be?- then be it!
A man is a leader appointed by God. Jesus was a fearless leader, defeating satan, casting out demons, commanding nature, rebuking hypocrites. He had nobility of character and full of complements of virtues that can be reproduced in us today-by the same Holy Spirit who dwelt in Him. God wants us to reproduce this manhood in all men. It is therefore a challenge to us men that we ‘Man Up’ and reclaim our position.

(©2010 Eric Kimaita. This is the first part of the four part series of the article “Mann Up”. I urge all the men and the women who miss real men who used to be to follow through patiently to the fourth part of this amazing article that will hopefully open our eyes as men as to what we might be missing out or leaving out in our leadership!)
